Excellence Through Common Goals
The College of Agriculture
Development Council (COADC) is a growing volunteer organization of over
130 men and women who are dedicated to enhancing cooperation and understanding
between Texas A&M University and the agricultural and life sciences
community through improved communication. Members advise the Vice Chancellor
and Dean of the College of Agriculture
and Life Sciences on agricultural issues, and attract financial
resources to enhance the educational programs of the College. Created
in 1981, the Council is composed of agricultural and business leaders
from Texas and neighboring states, and includes both former students
and friends of the University. Regardless of background, each member
is dedicated to improving
educational opportunities for
students majoring
in
agricultural and life sciences, while preparing them for
roles as
future leaders.
COADC Mission
The mission of the Texas A&M College of Agriculture Development Council is to proactively support and promote Texas A&M to be the world's premier agriculture teaching, research, and extension nstitution.
To achieve this mission, the College of Agriculture Development Council is committed to providing support that allows for:
Interaction Through Organization
and Activities
The Council is organized into five geographical
regions--Southeast Texas, Northeast Texas, Central Texas, South Texas/Valley
and Panhandle/South Plains. Regions meet on an "as needed"
basis. The entire Council also meets on a semi-annual basis, with the
fall meeting held in College Station, Texas, and the spring meeting held at various locations
throughout Texas. Social interaction and activities for spouses are
an important component of meetings for the general membership.

Efficiency and Achievement Through Team Work
In 2005, the Council
saw a need for organization of its activities through the development of a strategic plan. Each goal has a committee which allows members to assist the College in areas
of their own interest. The following committees
assist in carrying out COADC's mission:
Goal 1: Major Projects,
Goal 2: Member Recruitment,
Goal 3: Marketing and Communications,
Goal 4: Relationships between COADC and TAMU and the TAMU System,
Goal 5: Federal and State Relations, and
Goal 6: Student Services & Recruitment.
Excellence Through Support
Council members serve as advisors and ambassadors
to, and for Texas A&M AgriLife
and the University. They eagerly communicate that Texas
A&M University stands for distinction in teaching, research
and public service. The Agriculture Program stands for excellence and
leadership due to the tradition established by leaders, such as COADC
members, who have a vision for young people and what they can accomplish
in the future.
The Council annually provides funds to COALS student
organizations for specific service projects and student judging teams
and provides financial support for the Texas
Agricultural and Natural Resource Summit Initiative and the Agricultural
and Natural Resource Policy Congressional Intern Program. In addition,
the COADC has contributed more than $1 million in Council funds toward matching scholarships which have an endowment market value of $2.2 million!
